Assistant Coach - Sprints/Hurdles

Experience:
Second Season

Randy Gillon enters his second season with Michigan State and works with the sprinters and hurdlers. Gillon's coaching resume includes two years of experience with the Illinois State track program, first as a volunteer coach, then as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs. Prior to his stint at Illinois State, Gillon spent one season as a volunteer coach for the women's track team at the University of Illinois. He also served as an undergraduate advisor and tutor for the Illini.

In Gillon's first season at MSU he coached a NCAA regional qualifier in Jackie Walton and a Big Ten scorer in John Childress. Childress set a school-record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.94.

Gillon arrived at MSU after directing Prime Function Strength and Rehabilitation Training Systems in Toronto since 2003, where he designed and oversaw strength training, weight management, rehabilitation, and general fitness programs for both competitive and non-competitive athletes of various sports. Gillon also served as a consultant to First Line Kinesiologist Inc., providing therapeutic exercises to post-injury individuals.

Gillon is a member of the NSCA, USATF and the Ontario Kinesiologist Association (OKA) and Ontario Track and Field Association (OTFA), with certifications in kinesiology and strength and conditioning.

Gillon earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology (2000) as well as a master's degree in kinesiology (biomechanics, 2002) from Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A three-year letterwinner for the track & field program, Gillon currently graduated eighth on Illinois' all-time record chart with a time of 14.15 in the 110m high hurdles.
