Scouting Basham: Preseason all-conference selection by Baseball America... received a lot of attention when he was a second-team summer baseball All-America selection last summer... is an exciting player, an excellent offensive hitter with a great swing... has the ability to hit for a high average or hit for power, could potentially be a double-figure home run hitter... will hit in the middle of the lineup.

2005: Earned Third-Team All-Big Ten honors... finished the year as MSU's top hitter, batting .358, placing him 10th in the Big Ten... was fifth in the conference in home runs (8) and sixth in on-base percentage (.450), led the Spartans with 43 RBI, 12 doubles and drew a team-high 28 walks... eight home runs tied him with Adam Tripp for the most on MSU's team... one of only three players to start in all 53 games... was second on the team in multi-hit games with 22... scored three runs, while stealing two bases at Brown (3/6).. went 2-for-4, knocking out two home runs, collecting four RBI against Campbell (3/8)... pounded out four RBI against Bradley (3/19), going 2-for-4 with a home run... went 3-for-4, tallying an RBI at Michigan (4/30)... went 3-for-5 with one run and two RBI in final game of the year at Northwestern (5/22)... capped season with a 14-game hitting streak (5/7-5/22).

2004: Batted .297 with 27 RBI in freshman campaign... appeared in 56 games, with 53 starts in left field... committed only one error in 99 fielding chances for a .990 percentage... named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team after batting .500 (6-for-12) in tourney action... finished the season tied for third on the team in triples with two... hit a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI against Penn State (5/15)... was 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in two and scoring three runs against Indiana (5/9)... had a five-game hitting streak to open Big Ten play (4/3-4/10)... went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI against Western Michigan (3/5).

High School: Set school records in batting average, RBI, runs scored, home runs, hits and walks... posted a .583 batting average with 15 home runs and 48 RBI as a senior... earned first-team all-state honors... received all-conference recognition... named Northwest Indiana Times Player of the Year... batted .538 with seven home runs and 33 RBI as a junior to earn all-conference honors... named first-team all-state as a junior... earned all-conference honors and honorable mention all-state accolades as a sophomore... recorded a .495 batting average with eight home runs and 50 RBI as a sophomore... member of National Honor Society... named to the honor roll all four years.

Personal: Born Oct. 12, 1984, to Jerry and Janice Basham... a business major... names brother, Doug, as biggest baseball influence... favorite team is the Chicago White Sox, and favorite player is Mark Grace.
