Scouting Cullen: Versatile pitcher who has shown the ability to be successful in many different roles...will compete for a spot as a starter but may also see action as a "go-to" member of the bullpen in 2008...tremendous competitor and a very good athlete.

2007 Season: Ranked third on the team with 18 appearances out of the bullpen...went 2-2 in 23.2 innings and struck out 12...worked a scoreless inning at Central Florida (3/6)...made six straight scoreless appearances from 3/28-4/21...pitched three shutout innings to get the win at Bowling Green (3/28)...hurled two scoreless frames and struck out a pair vs. Western Michigan (4/10)...pitched season-high 3.1 innings vs. Michigan (4/27)...finished the season with another streak of six shutout appearances, working 10 innings without allowing a run from 5/5-5/18...pitched three scoreless frames at UIC (5/9)...struck out four in two appearances against Northwestern (5/11-5/13).

2006 Season: Academic All-Big Ten selection...second on the team in victories (4) and appearances (17)...started three games...tossed 26.0 innings...threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief against Rhode Island (3/11)...had two shutout appearances in the Western Illinois series (3/25-26)...picked up his first win of the season vs. Grand Valley State, pitching an inning of relief (3/29)...pitched 2/3 of scoreless relief in the eighth inning against Western Michigan, and earned the victory after MSU rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth (4/12)...garnered the win in his first start of the season, hurling four innings vs. Toledo (4/26) while surrendering just one run...won his second game of the year against Western Michigan (5/9) with a five-inning starting effort, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.


2005 Season: Appeared in 13 games, throwing 15.2 innings...threw a season-high 3.0 innings vs. Illinois (4/8)...did not allow a hit in 1.2 innings pitched against Saginaw Valley State (4/5)...struck out a season-high two batters each against Ohio State (4/17), Indiana (5/7) and Northwestern (5/21).

Pre-MSU: Transferred to MSU from Coastal Carolina where he was a member of the baseball team, but did not play during the fall semester.

High School: A two-year letterwinner at St. Anne High School in Tecumseh, Ontario...produced a 4-1 record on the mound with a 1.63 ERA for Team Ontario's senior team in 2004, where he also served as team captain...had a 5-3 record with 45 strikeouts for Team Ontario in 2003...was a four-time all-provincial selection...lettered four seasons in basketball at St. Anne and captained the team for three years...earned the 2004 Gatorade Will To Win Athlete award at the Ontario Provincial Championships...named school's Male Athlete of the Year as a senior...member of the principal's honor roll for four years.

Personal: Born Oct. 16, 1986 in Windsor, Ontario...son of Barry and Kim Cullen...communications major...names his father as his biggest baseball influence...pitched for the Cal Ripken Collegiate League Champion Bethesda Big Train in the summer of 2006 and was the starter for the Cal Ripken League All-Star Game...finished the 2006 summer season with a perfect 3-0 mark and a 0.39 ERA in 23 innings of work...pitched for the Mat-Su Miners in the Alaska League in 2007, going 1-1 with a 1.74 ERA over 20.2 innings.
