Scouting Friedland: Blue-collar player with the ability to be a run-producer on offense...should see action at first base and DH...shows exceptional defensive skills at first base.

2007: Started all 51 games, batting .312 and ranking third on the team with 53 hits...showed toughness by getting hit by a pitch a team-leading 12 times...scored 24 runs and drove in 28 runs...compiled a .402 on-base percentage...committed just four errors en route to a .991 fielding percentage...his 397 putouts were the third most in an MSU single-season...hit safely in 13 of 14 games from March 4 to March 30, including a nine-game hitting streak...batted .324 over the months of February and March...picked up first hit with an RBI single versus Auburn (2/24)...posted 3-for-3 effort with a double, three RBI and three runs scored against St. Joseph's (3/4)...collected RBI singles against Pittsburgh (3/5) and at Central Florida (3/6)...had three hits and scored a run at Stetson (3/7)...went 2-for-5 at South Florida (3/10)...had two hits and drove in three versus Quinnipiac (3/11)...had two hits, an RBI and stole a base at Oklahoma (3/16)...smacked a two-run single at Indiana (3/31)...collected two hits - including a double - and scored a run against Purdue (4/8)...hit an RBI single and scored versus Western Michigan (4/10)...picked up lone sac fly of the year against Penn State (4/16)...posted a 2-for-3 effort with a double and run scored at Minnesota (4/21)...went 3-for-4 with a double and scored a run in first game of series versus Michigan (4/27)...concluded series against Michigan by collecting two hits and scoring a pair of runs (4/29)...had three hits and three RBI at Western Michigan (5/8)...went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI at UIC (5/9)...had two hits - including a double - and drove in three runs versus Northwestern (5/11)...had an RBI single against Northwestern (5/12)...had two hits and scored a run against Illinois (5/18)...went 2-for-5 in the season finale against Illinois (5/19).


Colby Community College (2005, 2006): Played two years at Colby for Coach Ryan Carter...garnered honorable mention all-conference and team MVP accolades in 2005...also won the team Gold Glove Award...second-team all-conference in 2006...hit .369 with three triples, four homers, 15 doubles, 40 RBI and 43 runs in 2006...posted a .993 fielding percentage...collected a .447 on-base percentage and .545 slugging percentage...played for the Colorado Springs Bulldogs in the summer of 2006.

High School: Lettered for three years under Coach Andy Dewitt at Grandview High School in Aurora, Colo...earned first team all-conference honors and honorable mention all-state honors his senior year after batting .443 with three homers, 30 RBI, 12 doubles and four triples in just 20 games...holds single-season school record for hits with 31 and RBI with 30...team won league title in 2004.

Personal: Born Aug. 27, 1986...son of Neal and Sue Friedland...has two brothers, Matt and Zach... criminal justice major... names his parents as his greatest athletic influences...played for the Bethesda Big Train in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Summer League in 2007, winning the team's Gold Glove award for defense...favorite athlete is Ken Griffey Jr...also enjoys bowling, table tennis, fishing and basketball.
