Scouting Potes: Tough competitor with good defensive skills...offensively, has the ability to hit for average and power while being a run producer...defensively, possesses a strong throwing arm with solid defensive skills at both third base and the outfield...will see time at third base, left field and DH.

2007: Appeared in 42 games, drawing a starting assignment 41 times...hit .275 with 16 RBI and scored 20 runs...smacked a double and had a sac fly in his Spartan debut at South Alabama (2/23)...doubled and scored versus Jacksonville (2/25)...went 2-for-4 with two RBI, walked twice and scored three runs against St. Joseph's (3/4)...had three hits at Central Florida (3/6)...had two hits and scored twice against Quinnipiac (3/9)...tallied a pair of RBI at South Florida (3/10)...went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs at South Florida (3/11)...had two hits - including a double - at Oklahoma (3/16)...collected a pair of hits in series finale at Oklahoma (3/18)...walked and scored in home opener versus Concordia (3/24)...had an RBI single at Bowling Green (3/28)...went 2-for-3 and scored a run against Purdue (4/9)...went 2-for-4 with a double and scored once versus Western Michigan (4/10)...had two hits - including an RBI single - versus Penn State (4/15)...had an RBI double in series finale against Penn State (4/16)...had an RBI single versus Central Michigan (4/25)...had an RBI single and scored a run at Ohio State (5/6)...went 2-for-3 and matched a career-high with three runs at Western Michigan (5/8)...singled and scored in series opener against Northwestern (5/11)...smacked an RBI single in series finale versus Northwestern (5/13).


Olney Central (Ill.) Community College (2005, `06): Played two years at third base for Coach Dennis Conley...named to the All-GRAC first team and all-regional tournament team as a sophomore...hit .394 with three homers, 15 doubles, 74 hits and 48 RBI as the team went 45-17 in 2006...also named to the GRAC All-Academic team...compiled a .346 batting average with 16 RBI in 2005.

High School: Lettered four years under Coach Greg Jackson at Adrian High School...as a captain his senior year, batted .340, and earned all-county, all-conference, all-district, all-region and team MVP honors...named to the all-conference academic team...also lettered in football and basketball.

Personal: Born June 14, 1986...son of Duane and Lisa Potes...sociology major...names his father as biggest baseball influence...played for the M.I.N.K. (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) league champion Chillicothe (Mo.) Mudcats in 2006...played for the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the Northwoods League in the summer of 2007 and was named to the league's all-star team...earned a spot on the MSU baseball "Top 9 Club" for the second year in a row.
