Three Sign National Letters Of Intent To Play For MSU

Nov. 27, 2007

EAST LANSING - Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team signed three players to National Letters of Intent last week. Chris Mory from Haslett, Mich., and David and Daniel Ellis from Nauganee, Mich., will all suit up for MSU next season.

Mory has four top-20 finishes on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). In 2005, he competed in the U.S. Junior Amateur and earned Division II All-State honors. In 2007, Mory was named to the Michigan High School Super Team by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association (MIGCA).

"This feels good," Mory said. "MSU's golf program is really on the rise. They're becoming one of the best in the Big Ten, as well as one of the premier programs in the nation. They always get the top players in the country, and to be able to play there is a real honor."

Daniel Ellis competed in the 2007 U.S. Junior Amateur, while his brother David took first place in the 2007 Michigan Junior Amateur. Both players have competed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan state finals since they were freshman, with David taking the title as a sophomore and Daniel as a junior. They competed last summer in the Coca-Cola Junior Championship and the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship.

"I think Chris, Dan, and Dave will add a different element to the team," said MSU head coach Sam Puryear. "They bring a lot of youthful exuberance, dedication, and hard work, plus they are very smart and intelligent kids. To me, they exemplify what a true Spartan golfer is all about."
