SOUTH BEND, Ind. -The Michigan State women's soccer team kicked off its spring exhibition season Wednesday (March 12) night with a friendly versus the Mexican National Team at Notre Dame. Play was tight throughout most of the contest before Mexico scored two late goals to pull away for a 3-1 win. Cara Freeman scored in the match's 69th minute for Michigan State's only goal.

After Mexico scored in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead, Lauren Hill sent a ball down the right sideline to Freeman, who had beaten her defender. The freshman forward finished the run with a shot past Mexico goalkeeper Sophia Perez in the lower right corner.

Play was tied until Mexico's Charlyn Corral tallied at 75:59 to put the national squad up 2-1. Mexico's Evelyn Lopez provided the final tally at 81:16, her second goal of the night.

Mexico outshot MSU, 22-5. Michelle Telebar and Lauren Carter each had a shot on goal. Lindsey Wrege made seven saves and played all 90 minutes for the Spartans.

The Mexican National Team is on a U.S. college exhibition tour as it prepares for the 2008 Olympic Games.
