Stefan Naughton Position: Assistant Coach Experience: Second Year

Stefan Naughton is in his first year as assistant coach for the Michigan State women's tennis team. Naughton comes to MSU from the University of Louisville where he competed as a student-athlete.

"Stefan is an incredible asset to this program," said MSU head coach Erica Perkins. "He brings top-level playing experience along with a huge desire to develop players. His organizational skills, work ethic and high moral values make him an ideal assistant. Coach Naughton is an integral part of the future of Spartan women's tennis!"

During his collegiate career at U of L, the team had NCAA Tournament team appearances in 2004, 2005 and 2006, in addition to a 2006 Big East Tournament championship. He posted a 10-6 singles record and a 5-5 doubles mark in 2006. In 2005, Naughton was named the Mark Beckman team player of the year for the Cardinals.

The Wellington, New Zealand, native was selected as a member of the New Zealand Tennis Team to compete at the World University Games in 2005.

Naughton served as a tennis instructor at the William Kingwood Tennis Academy in Paramus, N.J., during the summers since 2002. His duties included teaching private and group lessons; teaching speed, agility and cardiovascular endurance classes; overseeing matches for nationally ranked junior players; and simulating intensive match play for nationally ranked junior and adult players. Naughton was also a tennis instructor at the Rex Ecarma Tennis Camps at the University of Louisville (2003-2006).
